While mileage varies on whether the first 120 strips (Dungeon Crawlin' Fools) are considered 100% canon, due to Rich Burlew writing them before he realized how long the series would last and how much emphasis would have to be placed on development and backstory, some fans take issue with how Redcloak's characterization apparently alternates between passive lackey (DCF) and competent evil champion of his maligned species and his vindictive faith (before and after DCF, but not during).The reason why Belkar has such poor Spot and Listen checks is because he has a poor Wisdom score, and barely any skill points, the latter of which is joked about in the very first strip.V doesn't catch on that Roy has been turned into a woman by the Girdle of Masculinity/Femininity because V is androgynous themself, and it's a normal state for them.In all likelihood, this is probably a major reason Thor thinks the rule is stupid.In short, suppressing knowledge of the Snarl to prevent anybody knowing of its existence and using it is exactly what caused the entire plot. This act failed to destroy the Crimson Mantle (which imparts all knowledge of the Snarl and ritual surrounding it and is likely the reason the paladins were ordered to attack) to its goblin bearer, but also guaranteed that Redcloak sought vengeance. A closer look at the in-story backstory reveals that ironically they were purged to stop any knowledge of the Snarl circulating. No amount of INT or WIS could have prevented Tsukiko from continuously taunting Redcloak, given those facts at hand. She never realized that Redcloak was doing that because he had his own greater plan, and then when she finally threatened that plan, he showed his true nature. This idea was strengthened each time Tsukiko did something Redcloak didn't like, but got away with, because Redcloak basically let himself be pushed over. Even Redcloak himself said it to Tsukiko in the end): she saw the dynamic between Redcloak and Xycon and determined that Xycon was the absolute boss without question (in fact, we all thought that in the beginning). And even that call was based on some very sound reasoning (which Rich elaborated on in the book. Tsukiko wasn't being 'dumb' when she confronted Redcloak, she just made a wrong judgment call. Durkon has the highest WIS and V the highest INT, but it's Roy that makes all the tactical plans. I can't believe this isn't the the top comment, this is probably the most important comment here.
